Ewen MacLachlan was librarian to the University and King's College, Aberdeen from 1800 - 1818, and head of the Grammar School from 1819 until his death in 1822. A distinguished Gaelic scholar and poet, he was appointed by the Highland Society of Scotland to assist Rev. John MacLeod, DD (1757 - 1841) in the compilation of the Gaelic Dictionary, published in 1828.
